Good Floor Report
Work

Loosened the solenoid bracket. Slightly repositioned (approximately 2mm) the angle at which the cylinder moves into the solenoid. Retightened everything. Tested 15-20 balls with no issues. Problem appears to be solved.

Closed Problem: Ball did not register in trough, so it thought the ball was missing.

I also experienced this issue while playing. Visual inspection of the solenoid indicated nothing loose or out of place. Couldn’t reproduce when running solenoid tests

Neighbor reported ball wasn’t appearing. Checking, no solenoid worked, including flippers. Only common element was fuse F12, which was blown. Replaced with 5A SB. Solenoids started working.

Doing a full solenoid test, magnets for The Power did not work. Tracing with a meter led to a 5A SB fuse under the table by the “Hi-Powered PCB board”.

Replaced fuse with 3A SB breaker. Only the left magnet tripped the breaker. Disconnected left magnet. Breaker still trips, so problem is upstream.

Pulled the board and D1 is shorted. Replaced a 1n4007 with 1n4001. All Power magnets worked without tripping the breaker. Replaced fuse and returned to service.

The ball launcher was misbehaving. The outside spring had at some point fractured. I tried fixing it recently, and it was fine for a bit, but it was bad yesterday during the tour. Today I ended up removing one of the chunks, as it was getting tangled in the other and making things less elastic. Works for now, but I should replace it. And since there are problems unscrewing one of the screws, maybe better just to get a new assembly?

Work
  • There’s something wrong in the swamp. I should go through all the switches there, and perhaps more generally.
  • God, it’s nice having something with decent built-in diagnostics. One of the swamp switches was erratic. But poking it was enough to get things working again. Was it a bit stuck? Was there some junk wedged there? Hard to know.
  • I had also noticed a problem with detecting the ball waiting to be launched. That was a bit trickier. It turns out the plunger was sitting just a shade too far forward. The external spring was weird and janky. I tried taking it all apart, but one of the screws is stuck. The external spring was in two parts, and I tried separating them. They mashed back together pretty quickly. I tried a bit of tape, but that made the ball not launch or launch weekly. So I took the tape off and everything is somehow fine?
  • Long term, I should get at least the screw and maybe a whole new assembly, complete with spring.

Worked on Addams Family with Laura as a good starter project for her.
- We cleaned the playfield, replaced some elastics, and replaced some bulbs.
- She really likes the detailing for the same reasons that I do.
- She asked if there are checklists. There should be!
- I also think I should sketch out the beginnings of a curriculum.
