- Removed control panel and playfield glass
- Un-jammed the ball lane on the left
- Wiped down and cleaned playfield and control panel, and playfield glass
- Lubricated control panel arm with small amount of silicon grease
- Lubricated Z-bomb button with minuscule amount of liquid silicon grease because it has been sticking
- Reattached control panel

This happens when the machine loses its settings, which often is related to the batteries. Batteries tested as normal, as did the voltage at the motherboard connectors.
Not finding a problem, I set the machine back on free play by setting maximum credits (item 18) to 0. The machine worked fine, even after being left off for a bit.
