Closed Unplayable Blackout
Description

Upon completion of flipper rebuild i hit the right flipper and it got “stuck” drawing high power. Subsequently, flipper died. Im pretty sure the continuous high power draw to the solenoid shorted something upstream, but i didnt have time to investigate thoroughly.

One additional note, i desoldered some wires on the solenoid on the flipper assembly switch stack. Im confident I resoldered them in the right positions, but it was getting to the end of the day.

Attached are pictures of the wiring before i unhooked any of it.

For for right flipper, it looks like the same wire is connecting the left and right ports. Attached photo - the grey/blue wire just loops from one side to the other but doesn’t attach to anything else .

Despite the high resistance hold not working (previously tested the high resistance side of the solenoid and it registered negligible resistance) i would expect that the high current would still flow and subsequently blow fuse f4 on the power driver board. Because that fuse remains intact, maybe its a break in the wire between the right flipper button leaf switch and the back box?

Resistance across the high resistance (single copper wire) lug and the center lug on the working flipper’s solenoid measures 25.9 ohms. On the broken flipper resistance across the same two coil lugs is .9 ohms. I think this means the solenoid may need replacing?

Brian and I looked at this. Current state: right flipper not moving at all.

We cleaned the contact between the flipper button, poked a lot at the solenoid under the right flipper (not an alignment issue), tested the diode on the solenoid and one diode nearby with inconclusive results, lightly bent one of the switches thinking that end-of-stroke wasn’t being engaged at the right time. Next thing to check is for loose wiring, possibly in the back of Blackout, since the flipper is not firing at all.
